Vellum started in 2023 as a Y Combinator-backed platform for building and evaluating enterprise LLM applications, then relaunched in 2026 as a personal AI assistant under the tagline "Your Personal Intelligence." It runs across web, macOS, iOS, CLI, email, Telegram, and Slack, holds persistent memory, and gets its own identity so it can act on your behalf. What is Vellum's personal intelligence pitch?
Vellum spent its first two years as an enterprise platform for prompt engineering, workflow building, and evals, the tools an AI team uses to ship an LLM feature. In 2026 the company relaunched around a different idea: a personal AI assistant with its own identity, memory, and presence across the apps you already use, positioned as a stand-in team member rather than a chat window. Sistava has been building that same "AI as a teammate" idea since day one, just aimed at a business instead of an individual.
