Zendesk AI

AI agents and copilot layered on the Zendesk helpdesk and ticketing platform

About Zendesk AI

Zendesk AI is the agentic layer inside the Zendesk helpdesk: AI agents that resolve conversations end to end across channels, a copilot that suggests and acts alongside human agents, knowledge that answers from your own content, and automated quality scoring across conversations. Its March 2026 acquisition of Forethought added self-improving agents to that lineup. Sistava is not a helpdesk add-on. It is a support employee that works from your inbox and docs, next to employees covering the rest of the business.

What is Zendesk AI?

Zendesk AI is not a separate product so much as a set of capabilities threaded through the helpdesk. AI agents handle conversations autonomously across messaging, email and voice. Copilot sits with human agents, suggesting replies and taking actions. Knowledge answers from your help center and macros. Quality assurance scores conversations automatically instead of by manual sampling. The March 2026 Forethought acquisition, Zendesk largest in years, added self-improving agents that learn from each interaction and generate their own workflows rather than following scripted flows. Those agents are now sold as part of the Zendesk lineup. The advantage of all of this is proximity. The AI is reading the same tickets, the same customer history and the same knowledge base your team already maintains, which removes the integration gap most standalone AI support tools spend their first month closing.

The cost shape is the real difference

Zendesk charges per agent seat across tiers, then charges again per automated resolution, then again for Copilot and other add-ons. That is defensible: seats track your team, resolutions track the value delivered. It also means the cost of success is a bigger bill, and forecasting it takes work. Sistava charges a flat plan per workspace. An employee that resolves ten conversations and one that resolves a thousand cost the same. For a small business, predictability is usually worth more than perfect cost attribution. The comparison flips at scale. A support organization with dozens of agents and mature processes gets real value from per-seat tooling and per-resolution accounting, and our flat model is not built to replace that.

When to switch and when not to

Do not switch away from Zendesk because of AI alone. If your team, workflows and history are in Zendesk, the AI inside it starts with an advantage no external tool can copy, and pulling support out of your system of record to chase a feature is usually a bad trade. Switching makes sense when support is not really a department. If tickets arrive in a shared inbox, volume is modest, and the same person handles support, marketing and sales, a helpdesk plus AI resolutions is heavy machinery for the problem. A common middle path is to keep Zendesk for the ticket workflow and hire a Sistava employee for the work around it: writing the help articles, chasing the follow-ups, updating the CRM, running the campaign nobody has time for.
