Amazon Q Business

Enterprise AI assistant grounded in company data across AWS-connected sources

About Amazon Q Business

Amazon Q Business is AWS enterprise AI assistant, connecting to 40+ data sources so employees can ask questions and get answers grounded in company documents, wikis and systems. It is priced aggressively at $3 per user per month for the Lite tier and $20 for Pro, billed through existing AWS accounts. Sistava is a different product category: employees that carry out work rather than an assistant that retrieves and summarises it.

What Amazon Q Business actually is

It is enterprise search and question answering with a chat interface, connected to 40+ data sources so answers are grounded in your own documents rather than the open internet. Permissions are respected, so people only get answers from material they were already allowed to read. The pricing is the strategic weapon. At $3 per user per month for Lite and $20 for Pro, AWS is undercutting Microsoft 365 Copilot and Google Gemini at $20 to $30, and bundling it into an account most enterprises already have. For a company whose data already sits in S3, Salesforce, SharePoint and Confluence, connecting Q is closer to configuration than implementation.

Answering is not doing

This is the whole comparison. Q tells you what the renewal terms are, where the runbook lives and what last quarter numbers were. It does not send the renewal email, run the runbook or build next quarter plan. For a large company, answering is genuinely the bigger problem: thousands of people losing hours to searching. Q at $3 a seat is excellent value against that. For a small company, nobody is losing hours to search because there are only four people and they all know where everything is. The lost hours go to work nobody has time to do, which is a capacity problem, not a retrieval one.

Per-seat pricing and the small team

Per-seat pricing rewards buyers with many employees who each need a little value. Twenty dollars a head across 500 people is $10,000 a month and easily justified if each person saves an hour. Invert that and it stops working. Three people paying $20 each gets you $60 of retrieval, which is fine, and does not move the thing that is actually limiting the business. Sistava prices flat per plan because output is what we sell. How many humans watch it work does not change the cost, which is the correct shape when the team is small and the workload is not.
