Open a file in Drive and drag across the sentence you want changed. A Comment button appears at the selection, and your note lands in the thread with the passage quoted above it, so you never have to describe which paragraph you meant. The highlight stays on the text. Reopen the file next week and a mark shows every part that already carries feedback. Click a mark to jump to its comment, or click a comment to jump back to its text. A resolved thread keeps a muted mark, so the page stays readable without losing the history of what was raised. If your employee rewrites the file, the marks re-measure themselves against the new text rather than floating over the wrong line. Your employee reads the quoted passage alongside your note, which is what makes short feedback work. Make this shorter finally has something to point at, and this contradicts the paragraph above stops being a guessing game. It works anywhere the file renders as real text: written documents, notes, code, spreadsheets and CSV tables, and Word files. PDFs are the exception, because their text sits inside a separate viewer we cannot attach a mark to, so a PDF falls back to an ordinary comment on the whole file. Images get numbered pins instead.
