Hire Your Employee

Pick a role from the Marketplace and have your new AI employee working in minutes.

TL;DR

Go to the Marketplace, find an employee that matches your needs, and click "Hire." You land in their chat immediately, with a short greeting from them and no setup wizard to get through first. Every employee is fully customizable after hiring, from their name and persona to their team and tools.

How Hiring Works

Hiring is a two-step process: browse, hire.

  1. Browse the Marketplace. Click "Marketplace" in the top navigation. Cards run personal assistants first, then domain specialists, then a "Build Your Own" option last. Use the search bar or the Filters menu (Department, Level, Tools) to narrow the list.
  2. Click "Hire." The system creates the employee from a pre-built template, with skills, duties, and tools already assigned for the role, and takes you straight to their chat.

There's no interview step or setup wizard inside the app. The employee sends a short first message introducing themselves and their role, then you just talk to them like a new coworker. There's no progress bar and nothing to "finish": the employee is active and able to work from the first message.

Clicking a card instead of "Hire" opens a profile drawer with the employee's full skill list, duties, and connected tools, so you can check the fit before committing.

Where to Find Your Employee After Hiring

After you click "Hire," the employee appears in the sidebar under the Bench team. Bench is the default group for employees not yet assigned to a specific team. Move them to a team from that team's Members tab.

The Employee Dashboard

Click the employee's name in the sidebar to open their dashboard. The tabs available depend on what the employee is doing:

Tab What It Does
Chat Send messages and have conversations
Tasks View and manage the employee's task board
Drive Browse files the employee produced and its work journal
Inbox Messages routed to the employee's mailbox
Calendar Meetings and scheduled events tied to the employee
Skills View and assign skills (step-by-step playbooks)
Playbooks The subset of skills that are runnable playbooks
Tools Connect apps and services the employee can use
Duties Standing rules the employee always follows
Routines Recurring, scheduled work
Activity Timeline of everything the employee has done
Profile Name, role, team, avatar, persona, tone of voice, and language

The Profile tab does not include per-employee AI model or reasoning-depth controls. Model, reasoning depth, and how many actions an employee can take per turn are set once for the whole workspace from Settings > Technical > AI Models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know which employee to hire? A: Start with what you need done. Browse the marketplace by role, and use the Department, Level, and Tools filters to narrow it down. Click a card to preview its full skills and tools before hiring.

Q: Can I change everything about the employee after hiring? A: Name, persona, tone of voice, language, team, skills, tools, and duties are all editable from the employee's dashboard tabs. Model and reasoning depth are set workspace-wide, not per employee.

Q: Can I chat with an employee before hiring them? A: On the public marketing pages you can start an Interview to chat with a template before committing. Inside the app's Marketplace, clicking a card opens a preview of its profile instead, and Hire creates the employee directly.

Q: What happens right after I hire someone? A: They're active immediately. You land in their chat, they send a short greeting describing their role, and you can start assigning work in the same message.

Q: Can I remove an employee I no longer need? A: Yes. Terminate them from their own dashboard menu or the team's Members tab. Terminated employees move to the Alumni section and their history is preserved; you can re-hire them later.
