Jasper AI Brand Voice: How to Set Yours Up Properly
How-to — — by Mahmoud Zalt
A step by step walkthrough of creating, testing and applying a Brand Voice in Jasper, plus the plan limits and gotchas the docs bury.
Brand Voice is the setting that decides whether Jasper's output sounds like your company or like the internet's average marketing page. It sits inside Jasper IQ, the layer where you store the things Jasper should know about you, and once it exists it is applied automatically rather than re-explained in every prompt.
The setup itself takes about fifteen minutes. Getting a voice that actually holds up across a blog post, a LinkedIn update and a product description takes a little more care, and that is mostly about which examples you feed it.
Before you start, gather your samples. You are allowed up to eight, and eight strong ones beat eight convenient ones by a wide margin. Pick pieces you would happily publish again, not the ones that happened to be open in a tab.
Where is Brand Voice in Jasper?
Brand Voice lives in the Jasper IQ section on the left hand side of your home page. Jasper IQ is the brand intelligence layer, and Brand Voice is one of its five components alongside Knowledge Base, Audiences, Visual Guidelines and Style Guide.
Jasper's own getting started advice for IQ is to set up one Brand Voice first, then two Audiences, then five Knowledge Base items. Voice comes first because it has the broadest effect on what every other feature produces.
How do you create a Brand Voice in Jasper?
You create one by uploading examples and letting Jasper describe what it found. There is no form where you tick adjectives. The whole mechanism is that Jasper reads your writing and reports back its own summary of your tone, style and characteristics, which you then correct.
Creating a Brand Voice, step by step
- Open Brand Voice — Go to the Jasper IQ section on the left hand side of your home page and choose Brand Voice.
- Start a new voice — Click + Add Brand Voice. To change one you already have, click the existing voice and select Edit.
- Set who can see it — Choose whether the voice is visible to the whole workspace or private to you. The control is the option to make the Brand Voice public to the workspace, and you can change it later from the same screen.
- Add your examples — Upload up to 8 examples. Each one can be pasted text, a file in .txt, .pdf or .docx format, or a URL. You can mix all three in the same voice.
- Read the description Jasper writes back — Once your examples are processed you get a description of your writing. At the bottom you will see several excerpts pulled from your content. Enabling those excerpts improves the accuracy of the voice.
- Test it before you trust it — Click Preview Brand Voice at the top of the page, choose Blog Post, LinkedIn Post or Product Description, give Jasper a topic, and click Generate.
- Compare the two outputs — Jasper shows two versions, one with your brand voice applied and one without. That side by side is the only honest signal of whether the voice is doing anything.
- Save — Click Save changes in the upper right hand corner. The voice is now selectable everywhere Jasper IQ appears.
What should you upload as examples?
Upload writing that already sounds like the thing you want more of. Since the cap is eight items, treat each slot as a deliberate choice rather than a dump.
- Mix the formats. A voice trained only on landing pages will write LinkedIn posts that sound like landing pages. Include an email, a post and a longer piece.
- Use pieces that worked. The article people replied to teaches more than the one nobody read.
- Avoid committee copy. Anything that went through five rounds of edits has had its voice sanded off, which is exactly the thing you are trying to capture.
- Use a URL when the page is genuinely yours. Jasper's documentation says it crawls the URL you give it to find enough text to determine your voice, rather than scraping the page.
How do you actually apply the voice once it exists?
A saved voice does nothing until it is selected. Jasper's documentation names three places you apply it: inside Agents, in the document editor, and in Jasper Chat. In Canvas you can also set Jasper IQ at project level, and every asset created in that project inherits it.
If you find yourself picking the same voice constantly, the IQ dropdowns now show a Recently used section at the top holding your three most recently selected voices, with everything else under an All section below. The same pattern applies to Audiences and Style Guides.
The more permanent fix is a workspace default, so nobody has to remember. Only Admins can set it. Click the workspace name in the top left, open Workspace Settings, go to Generation Defaults, pick your voice under Default Workspace Brand Voice, and save. Anyone can still override it per piece of content.
What are the plan limits on Brand Voice?
Jasper's Brand Voice help page lists two Brand Voices on the Pro plan and unlimited on Business. It also notes that applying a Style Guide, which is where rules like Oxford commas or swapping one word for another live, is currently a Business feature.
One practical note if you are near the cap: their documentation confirms you can delete a voice and create a new one in its place, so a limit of two is a limit on how many exist at once, not on how many you may ever make.
Where a writing tool stops and a colleague starts
Everything above is real work with a real payoff, and Jasper's approach of learning your voice from samples rather than from adjectives is the right instinct. It is worth doing properly.
It is also worth naming what it does not cover. A Brand Voice governs how a draft reads. It does not decide what to write this week, does not put the post live, and does not notice that nobody followed up on the three replies it generated. That is the gap we built Sistava to close. You hire an AI Employee, tell it in plain English what you want handled, and it holds the voice, the schedule and the follow up together as one job rather than three tools.
Whichever tool you land on, the input work is the same and it transfers. Twenty minutes spent choosing eight genuinely representative samples will improve output in Jasper, in a general chat assistant, or anywhere else you paste them.
Common mistakes when setting up Brand Voice
Most disappointing results trace back to the same handful of causes, and all of them are fixable in a few minutes.
- Skipping the preview. The with and without comparison is the only way to see whether the voice changed anything. Generating one sample and eyeballing it tells you very little.
- Leaving the excerpts off. Jasper's documentation is explicit that enabling the excerpts pulled from your content improves accuracy.
- Never editing the description. If Jasper describes you as corporate and you are not, correcting that sentence is the most valuable edit on the page.
- One voice for every context. Support replies and launch announcements are not the same register. If your plan allows more than one voice, use them.
- Forgetting the workspace default. A voice nobody selects is a voice that does nothing.
None of those take long to fix, and fixing them is usually the difference between a voice that quietly improves every draft and one that sits in the sidebar doing nothing. Give it one proper afternoon and then leave it alone.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ
How many examples can you upload to a Jasper Brand Voice?
Up to 8. Each example can be pasted text, an uploaded file in .txt, .pdf or .docx format, or a URL, and you can mix those types within the same voice.
Where is Brand Voice in the Jasper interface?
In the Jasper IQ section on the left hand side of your home page. Jasper IQ also holds Knowledge Base, Audiences, Visual Guidelines and Style Guide.
How many Brand Voices do you get on each Jasper plan?
Jasper's Brand Voice help page lists 2 Brand Voices on Pro and unlimited on Business. Their Jasper IQ overview page separately states that Jasper IQ is available on Business plans, so confirm what applies to your account before planning around it.
Can other people in my workspace see the Brand Voice I create?
By default members and admins in the workspace can see and use Brand Voices. You control this when creating or editing a voice by choosing whether to make it public to the workspace or keep it private to you.
Does Jasper scrape my website to build a Brand Voice?
Jasper's documentation states that it crawls your website to find enough text to determine your brand voice, as opposed to scraping it.
Can I delete a Brand Voice and make a different one?
Yes. Jasper's documentation confirms you can delete a voice and recreate a new one in its place, which matters if your plan caps how many you can hold at once.
How do I make one voice apply to everything by default?
An admin sets it in workspace settings. Click the workspace name in the top left, open Workspace Settings, go to Generation Defaults, choose the voice under Default Workspace Brand Voice, and save. Individual users can still override it.
